Not qualified as a locallunch!Yes, it’s been a while but we’re back to the keyboard and with a whole host more lovely lunch spots to bring to you. To kick off our renaissance we’d like to introduce you to one of the most popular farm shops in Norfolk, with it’s own cafe and restaurant attached – a dream come true for locallunchers everywhere.

Back to the Garden is an instant winner due to the fabulous barn conversion, bringing huge double height ceilings and a wide, airy feel to the tastefully decorated interior. The tables are nicely spaced out – cafes everywhere take note – enabling you to enjoy your lunch without knocking elbows with the table next door, or spilling National secrets to any eavesdroppers (or whatever you talk about over lunch). If you take the slightly longer path to the cafe through the farm shop, your appetite will be whet by the glorious array of Norfolk’s finest wares – and I’d highly recommend you do exactly that. After taking a slow amble to a table (remember you’re in Norfolk now), peruse the menu fully and make your choice carefully – menu envy is a serious and grave concern here.

With menu envy on my mind I took the best option available and patiently awaited my glorious burger while admiring the huge farm inspired artwork adorning the walls. When it came, I’m glad to announce that BTTG has knickers as well as a fur coat – the burger, as well as the rest of the food we enjoyed was fabulous and even exceeded the expectations built up by its huge reputation and exquisite surroundings. No case of the reputation writing cheques the food can’t cash; if anything it’s close to being a blank cheque.

We will, happily, need to return to BTTG to complete this review with further info and pictures. Or, if you’d like to help, please add to the review yourself.

What do you think? Back to the Garden

Back to the Garden is a true gem. Although expensive and sadly not a qualifying locallunch, this is no reason to overlook it. The menu is extensive and covers classics as well as some fantastic unlikely choices and local twists. Combine this with knowledgeable, accommodating staff, great ingredients well cooked and you have a recipe for guaranteed delight. Strongly recommended, Back to the Garden is the kind of place that every town should have on hand, but sadly don’t.

  • Fabulous venue and shop
  • Great quality, fresh ingredients
  • Fantastically well cooked
  • Over the budget
  • One for the Norfolk way of life – don’t expect a quick lunch
  • It’s only in Holt :(
